We knew that it was time for BMW to begin preparing its Z4 hardtop-roadster for a mid-life update as it has been four years since the introduction of the second generation model (codenamed E89), and now we can show you spy photos of the first prototype.
As you can see for yourself, this particular test car suggests that the styling changes are to be restricted to the headlamp and tail lamp graphics, and the front-fender ornaments and side markers.
However, there’s a strong possibility this is an early prototype and that BMW may be working on more tweaks, which could include the design of the front grille, the bumpers and even the shape of the headlamps.
BMW has already made changes to the engine lineup with the introduction of the 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline four, so unless the newly formed M Performance division surprises us with a sportier flavored variant, we don’t expect anything new under the hood.
We could see, however, BMW tweaking the chassis and possibly updating the interior with new trim and a revamped iDrive system.
