A little over a year after MG confirmed plans to offer the new MG3 supermini in Europe starting with the UK at the end of 2012, company engineers were spotted testing a prototype of the five-door hatchback in Spain.

The MG3 is the production version of the 2010 Zero Concept Car and is already offered in China in two body styles, a regular five-door hatch and a mud-loving faux-crossover version with a hoiked up ride height and plastic moldings named MG3 Xross, which may or may not be offered in Europe.

The spy film suggests that the re-engineered model for the European market will feature a mildly updated fascia with a redesigned grille and changes to the bumper.

MG may also fiddle around with the interior to bring it up to European standards in terms of trim and equipment features.

The Ford Fiesta-sized model will likely launch in the UK with a choice of 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engines, with a diesel and possibly a more powerful petrol unit for a sportier model to be added down the line.

If you scroll down, you will find a spy video of the European tester as well as a gallery of the Chinese market specification MG3.
