Audi engineers continue to rack up miles on the RS5 Cabriolet, a prototype model of which was captured on camera while testing on the Nürburgring circuit by one of our spy photographers.
The styling of the cloth-top flavored RS5 follows closely after the facelifted coupe model with a bespoke aero package comprising modified front grille and bumper designs, side skirts, swollen arches encircling 19-inch wheels and a new rear bumper incorporating a diffuser and the traditional RS oval-pipes.
Power naturally comes from a 4.2-liter V8 that generates 444hp (450PS / 331kW) and is matched to a seven-speed S tronic transmission with a launch control program transferring power to all four wheels through Audi’s quattro system.
Beyond that, there’ll be RS-specific seats, steering wheel and trimmings inside, along with the usual suspension and chassis updates.
The new RS5 Cabriolet should make its world premiere before the end of 2012 and go on sale in Europe next spring. While the RS5 Coupe will be landing in North America later in the year, it remains to be seen if Audi will enhance the range with the convertible model.
