Leave it to the Japanese to come up with a whole range of body styles for a kei class van like the Sambar.
Joining the existing and wide-ranging lineup that includes the TB and TC pickup trucks, the HR high-roof, extended cab pickup truck, the PVH commercial van, the DP dumpster, and the VB, VBC and VC minivans, is the new “Open Deck”, which is something like a four-door crew-can pickup truck.
We’re not sure what you can squeeze in the Sambar Open Deck’s flatbed (…or is that a flat cradle?), but Subaru says that the vehicle can easily accommodate four passengers in the cabin area.
The diminutive truck is powered by a 660cc petrol engine linked to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic with or without all-wheel drive, with prices starting from 1,128,900 Yen and rising to 1,318,900 Yen (US$14,100-16,500 / €11,400-13,400).
