According to sources, this is the first Subaru BRZ (seen on film at least) to receive the turbo treatment.
Ohio based Accelerated Performance owner John Visconti recently headed over to the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club (NASIOC) to reveal what his company had accomplished with their new turbocharged BRZ by posting the results of the dyno test.
Even though the standard BRZ comes with a 2.0-liter, 200bhp Boxer engine, it remains a fun thing to be behind the wheel. Nevertheless, we think it can only get more fun with the addition of 117 extra wheel-horsepower (whp).
Rated on the dyno at a reliable 278whp and 215 lb-ft torque (up from the stock engine’s 161whp) , Accelerated Performance can now chalk up the “first turbocharged BRZ” to their resume. Owner John Visconti says that the peak horsepower on the run was 286whp, but that they were looking for “reliability” rather than peak performance.
On the forum, he also added the turbo kit will run an extra $5,000, but for the patient Subie owners they are working on an even larger one as well.
Maybe Subaru should take some notes for an STI version in the near future.
