To help meet growing demand for the Range Rover Evoque, which has sold close to 88,000 units since its launch in July of 2011, the Jaguar-Land Rover Group’s (JLR) Halewood assembly plant in the UK has entered a 24-hour production schedule for the first time in its 50-year-old history.
The move comes five months after the company made the announcement and launched a recruitment campaign to hire 1,000 new production operators, supervisors and engineers increasing the factory’s workforce to 4,500.
According to Des Thurlby, HR Director at JLR, the company received more than 30,000 applications for these 1,000 new roles.
The British automaker said that the new recruits will manufacture both the Range Rover Evoque and the updated Land Rover Freelander 2 models across three shifts, including a new night shift that started at 21.30 this evening.
“Moving production to three shifts and working 24 hours a day will allow us to significantly reduce the time a customer has to wait for their new Range Rover Evoque,” said Halewood Operations Director, Richard Else.
