Less than three months ago, Mitsubishi Australia welcomed their newest board member and CEO of the company, Mutsuhiro Oshikiri, and he already has some constructive criticism for the brand as a whole.

“The product is old…and the prices are too high,” Oshikiri told Australian daily The Sydney Morning Herald during an interview last week.

With the market up nearly 10 percent and Mitsubishi down more than 5 percent in year-to-date sales over the same period last year, the Japanese firm’s Australian subsidiary is desperately looking for way to increase its sales.

Naturally, Oshikiri is well aware of the situation and understands that something has to be done in order to procure a more profitable future for the brand.

“I don’t know why people buy a Mitsubishi. That is a simple question, difficult answer that I have to think about for the next three or four months. What is the benefit? Why do we have to be here? What is the future? I have to find out.”

Nevertheless, Oshikiri hopes to gain sales and a positive reputation by rolling out new models like the Outlander SUV this November and the Mirage city car early next year.
