Life is smiling at you when you’re dating a reality show TV star and driving a sparkling Rosso Corsa Ferrari 458 Spider at the age of 28. But all this doesn’t mean that you’re above the law.
Unfortunately, Julien Chabbott thought otherwise, since he was caught on camera driving said Ferrari over an NYPD officer’s foot while being handed a parking ticket.
Now Felix Recio, the officer who was run over by Chabbott, has hired lawyer Sal Strazzullo and is upping the stakes. “Chabbott clearly had no regard for officer Recio’s life”, Strazzullo told The New York Post. “Hitting him with his Ferrari could have caused serious injuries or death”, he added.
That’s why he said that he will meet with the DA’s office next week as he seeks the charges adjusted from felony assault to a much more serious first-degree assault with a deadly weapon and will reportedly ask for a $10 million compensation.
“I was writing the ticket. He got in the car, I told him not to, but he proceeded to take off”, Recio said. “He hit my foot, but I could have been very badly injured. I was just trying to do my job. He was parked in a no-standing zone, and he didn’t have a registration sticker, as required.”
Chabbot’s attorney Ben Brafman dismissed the criminal charge: “We are not aware of any civil lawsuit”, he told the newspaper. “Indeed, I would be shocked if a $10 million lawsuit is in fact being contemplated given the fact that we have developed information that the officer in question appears to have suffered no injury whatsoever.”
