Given that Range Rover (regular or Sport) drivers devote if not all, most of their ride time on the road, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Land Rover engineers are honing the next generation of the firm’s full size SUV at the Nürburgring in Germany.
The same 2014 Range Rover Sport prototype with the faux Volvo mask that our spies photographed in Germany last month has now been caught on film while performing a few quick laps on the Nordschleife.
The Sport variant will share its much lighter aluminum architecture and powertrain hardware with the slightly longer and taller 2014 Range Rover, with engine options to include V6 and V8 diesels, V8 and supercharged V8 petrols and possibly, a Jaguar-Land Rover’s new supercharged V6 petrol.
The differences between the two models will mostly concern the exterior and to a lesser extent, the interior design with the Sport trying its best to justify its name through some styling tricks such as the more steeply raked windscreen and a more sloping roofline.
The regular Range Rover is expected to be revealed this fall with the Sport model to follow about a year later.
