While we are still building the list on the models that will make their world premiere at next month’s Paris Motor Show, German publication AutoMotorundSport is flying into the future with a report on the Smart brand.
According to the magazine, following the presentation of an as-of-yet unidentified concept car in Paris this September, the German automaker will debut the production version of the next generation of the three-door, two-seater ForTwo and a new five-door, four seater ForFour model at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.
The two cars are believed to utilize new platforms and engines that have been developed in partnership with the Renault Group as part of a multi-faceted deal signed in 2010 and expanded earlier this year.
The new ForTwo will likely be modeled after the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show ForVision Concept and the 2012 Detroit Auto Show ForUs Study.
The four-seater ForFour remains largely a mystery, though our spy photographers had managed to sneak up close to Smart’s design center last year and snap a few shots of a clay model of a tall, five-door hatchback (pictured above). However, we are not sure if it was a production-intent or a purely conceptual prototype.
