Toyota continues to promote the sport credentials of its GT86, which is sold under the Scion brand as the FR-S in North America, with the unveiling of a cost-effective racecar version for private participants.

The new GT86 CS-V3 was designed by Toyota Motorsport GmbH as an entry-level race model with easy maintenance and low running costs specifically for the V3 class of the Nürburgring-based VLN series and homologation from the Deutsche Motor Sport Bund.

During its development process, the GT86 CS-V3 participated and won its class in this year’s Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The car keeps the regular model’s 200-horsepower 2.0-liter flat-four engine linked to a 6sp manual intact but adds a racing exhaust system while TMG also stiffened the chassis, optimized weight distribution for motorsport and added race-spec suspension and brakes.

It also features 17-inch wheels shod in racing slicks, a FIA-approved roll cage, an electronic fire extinguisher and a racing seat with a six-point safety harness.

Yoshiaki Kinoshita, TMG President commented:

“We want to share the passion of motorsport with as many people as possible and this car is the result. It is already race-proven having won the V3 class in the Nürburgring 24 Hours and we hope to see many more of these cars competing in the coming months. The GT86 is a perfect car for production-based motorsport. It already looks fantastic and has superb handling, so with further performance and safety upgrades we have created a really exciting and competitive car which is extremely cost effective.”

In Europe, a race-ready TMG GT86 CS-V3 costs €38,500 (US$48,000) excluding tax – or €45,815 (US$57,100) including German VAT (19% sales tax), and is available for order now with delivery times depending on demand.

TMG said that it is also considering the development of a more hardcore GT86 Cup car for the near future.
