This isn’t the first time that Opel’s as-of-yet, unnamed, Convertible model has set foot onto the Nürburgring, but up until now, we had only seen pictures of the production ready prototypes pushed around the famed race track in Germany.
This freshly filmed footage from the ‘Ring shows the brand’s engineers trying out a couple of Convertible test cars with their fabric tops in both up and down positions.
The four-seater convertible is based on the underpinnings of the latest Astra but will be a standalone model the range, just like the Volkswagen Eos that hides a Golf underneath its body.
The front-wheel drive model will share its engine range with the rest of the Astra family, including GM’s upcoming 1.6-liter direct-injection turbo petrol that will be offered in various states of tune, with the most potent delivering 197hp (200PS).
We will see the new Opel (Vauxhall in the UK) convertible in the flesh at the Paris Motor Show at the end of September, though the first pictures will likely be released within the next few weeks.
Hat tip to Timo for the video!
