With the presentation of the all-new A3 three-door hatchback (pictured above) at the Geneva Motor Show in March, it was only a matter of time before Audi begun expanding the range of its premium compact model.
And the time for the five-door version of the series with the Sportback moniker has almost arrived as we just learned that the German automaker will debut the car at the upcoming 2012 Paris Motor Show in late September.
We will probably have to wait a few weeks for the official photography, but we do know from spy shots that the new iteration of the A3 Sportback will share a similar styling with the current model.
The engine lineup will be shared with the 2012 Audi A3 three-door hatchback comprising a variety of turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines including the 178hp (180PS) 1.8-liter TFSI and the 148hp (150PS) 2.0-liter TDI.
Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system and double clutch automatic transmission will also be on offer.
The A3 range will see at least one more addition this year in the form of the first ever sedan model of the range, which will be revealed before the end of 2012 (we still don’t know if it will be at the Paris Motor Show or at a later event such as the LA Auto Show in November).
