Alongside the brand-new A3 Sportback and S3, Audi‘s stand at the 2012 Paris Auto Show is rumored to host the world premiere of the Crosslane Coupe, a concept for a two-door compact SUV with a hybrid powertrain that will spawn the Q2 crossover.
We don’t have any pictures of the concept yet (what you see here is an older Audi study), but according to British publication Autocar, the Crosslane Coupe is 4,250 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,500 high and has a 2,550 mm wheelbase.
This makes it slightly bigger in all dimensions than the A3, but it’s still smaller than the Q3.
The crossover is said to be based on the VW Group’s new MQB modular platform and according to the report, it could share many components with both the new Audi A2 hatch and the second-generation Skoda Yeti.
Even though the study is a three-door, 2+2 seater, the production version of the Q2 scheduled for launch in 2015, is expected to be a more conventional and roomier, five-door model.
The Crosslane Coupe reportedly features a hybrid powertrain combining a 130 HP three-cylinder 1.5-liter petrol engine to an electric motor producing 116 HP and 249 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque and a battery pack.
Unlike other Audi hybrids, however, the petrol engine never drives the wheels but acts solely as a range extender, powering the electric motor when the battery, which reportedly offers a range of 130 km (80 miles), runs out of juice.
While a hybrid version will most likely join the engine range, at launch the Q2 will be offered with four-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines and front- or all-wheel drive transmissions.
