While Suzuki has already prepared us for the world premiere of a new concept model called the S-Cross at the Paris Motor Show on September 27, behind the scenes, the company’s engineers are hard at work finishing the development of the actual production version that may replace the current SX-4.

Suzuki is being tight lipped about the S-Cross as well as the production model that will follow, but our spy pictures of a camouflaged prototype testing on European roads suggest that it will be a larger crossover model than the sub-compact SX4.

In addition, unlike the SX4 that was a joint product of Fiat and Suzuki with the Italian version of the car named Sedici, the new S-Cross (at this point we don’t know what name will be used for the production model) is being developed solely by the Japanese automaker.

The S-Cross will be offered with both petrol and the more popular diesel engines in Europe when it goes on sale by late 2013 or early 2014, while the North American model will likely be available only with a gasoline engine option.
