The last time we saw a Jaguar in a 007 flick it was 10 years ago in Die Another Day: the car was a previous-generation XKR convertible driven by the villain, while Bond drove an Aston Martin Vanquish.
It was the last Bond film starring Pierce Brosnan and at the time, both companies were part of Ford’s Premier Automotive Group. Nowadays, Daniel Craig has replaced Brosnan, the fictional secret agent’s storyline has been rebooted and Ford has since sold Jaguar and Aston Martin.
Jaguar is making a comeback, as along with Land Rover, it will feature in the upcoming Bond movie, Skyfall, which opens in the UK on October 26. Jaguar and Land Rover provided 77 vehicles to the production team, including the Jaguar XJ sedan, and the Land Rover Defender and Range Rover SUVs.
The film, directed by Academy Award winner Sam Mendes, coincides with the Golden Anniversary of the fictional secret agent. Jaguar and Land Rover will celebrate the event during the Paris Auto Show, where a Defender driven in the opening sequence by field agent Eve will be displayed on the brand’s stand.
“Bond is quintessentially British and Jaguar and Land Rover are two of the most established and globally recognizable British brands, so it was a natural step for us to involve them in the film”, said co-producer and veteran of 11 Bond films, Andrew Noakes.
If we were cynical we would note that this is typically called “product placement”, the quintessentially British carmakers are owned by India’s Tata Motors and the world’s best agent should drive something like the F-Type, not a limo (still better than the Z3, though…). But we’re not, so we’ll just show you the Jag-Aston ice chase sequence in the video that follows right after the jump.
