“One of the most competitive market segments in Europe” – that’s how Kia describes the compact MPV class, which it re-enters with the all-new Carens.

Making its world premiere today at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, the new Carens is much more stylish than its predecessor as it adopts the company’s new design philosophy that has been introduced by design director Peter Schreyer.

Kia says that “the cab-forward design ensures generous interior space”, adding that the new Carens will be available with a choice of five or seven seats.

“The new Carens will have great appeal for families with an active lifestyle who seek both style and practicality”, commented Kia vice president and CEO Hyoung-Keun Lee.

The automaker has not released many technical details about its new model, which is believed to be based on the platform of the new Cee’d, other than the basic engine range.

In Europe, Kia said the Carens will offered with a choice of four powertrains, ranging in output from 113 to 174HP (115-177PS) with CO2 emissions from 118 g/km.
