The first ever John Cooper Works (JCW) model to come with all-wheel drive, the new flagship version of MINI’s Countryman crossover, goes on sale in the United States with a starting price of $35,550 (~ €27,700), which includes a $700 destination and handling fee.
The 2013 John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4 is powered by a newly developed 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which in North American specification, develops a maximum output of 208-horsepower and peak torque of 192 lb-ft (260Nm), available between 1,850 and 5,600 rpm.
Aside from the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the JCW Countryman ALL4 is also available with an optional six-speed automatic. Regardless of the transmission, it hits 60mph (96km/h) from rest in 7 seconds and tops out at 127mph (205km/h).
The small crossover model rides on 18-inch light-alloy wheels and features a sports suspension with more firmly tuned springs and dampers, strengthened anti-roll bars and a 10-millimeter lower ride height.
It also gets a DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system that includes DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) mode, while the standard Sport Button changes the engine’s responses and vocal character, and adjusts the power assistance provided by the steering.
Other standard features include air conditioning, a harman/kardon hi-fi audio system, xenon Adaptive Headlights, automatically dimming rear-view mirror and exterior mirrors, electrically operated glass sunroof, Park Distance Control and a navigation system.
