The development of the next four-door Bentley Continental Flying Spur continues with handling tests on the Nürburgring racetrack in Germany.

Following the sneaky disguises that made previous prototype models look like goofy Mercedes-Benz S-Class limos, Bentley’s engineers have now dressed the Continental Flying Spur in a simpler, checkered-theme wrap.

As is the case with the redesigned GT coupé and GTC convertible, the four door sedan model of the Continental family will benefit from a revised chassis, a new V8 engine, a redesigned body and an updated interior.

On the coupe and convertible models, the Audi-sourced 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is rated at 500hp (507PS) and 660Nm (487 lb-ft) and is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission driving all-four wheels.

The test car featured in these spy images is the V8 model as it sports twin tailpipes on either side of the rear bumper.

The W12 variants of the Continental Flying Spur will gain a new engine management system along with an eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF replacing the current model’s six-speed unit and an energy recuperation system.

The redesigned Continental Flying Spur will launch towards the end of 2013.
