The third generation of the Pontiac Firebird will likely be remembered by the masses for its key role in the popular 1980s television series Knight Rider as KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a specially modified version of the Trans AM model with high tech crime-fighting equipment.
In real life, the Trans Am was available as a specialty package for the Firebird usually offering upgraded handling through suspension modifications, more power under the hood and exclusive styling features.
Obviously, that wasn’t enough for one of the owners of this 1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am who at some point of the car’s life decided to give it an extensive makeover and turn it the custom-bodied creation you see here.
The car is being auctioned on eBay where it has received 32 bids (at the time we wrote this post) topping out at $760, though the seller’s reserve had not been met.

“Up for auction is a 1983 Custom Firebird TransAm, third generation. The drivetrain and base body is a 83 Firebird Trans Am, has a custom fiberglass body kit on it, 305, 5.0, 4 speed automatic overdrive, 4 wheel disc brakes, pos rear end. Runs, needs fuel pump (new manual fuel pump included, goes on motor), needs gas tank (I was going to use a fuel cell), needs tune up. Paint is good, has flakes in the clear coat, but has some body cracking as shown. Headlights work. Has new Falken tires, size 275/40 ZR 18″, Eagle alloy rims, new also. Top is removable as shown. This is a one of a kind car, you will never see another like it. Being sold with a bill of sale only.”
