At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March, Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle division previewed a concept model of the Amarok named Canyon Edition, styled and configured for customers who enjoy outdoor sports and activities.
Volkswagen has now decided to offer a production version of the Amarok Canyon that was introduced at this week’s IAA Commercial Vehicles Show in Hanover, Germany.
The company’s designers incorporated all the concept vehicle’s key features including the exclusive to this model ‘Copper Orange’ paint scheme with gloss black accents, 17-inch ‘Roca’ alloy wheels fitted with size 245/70 R 17 AT-tires and the styling bars on the loading area.
Other visual features adopted from the concept include the darkened rear light clusters, undercarriage guards in body color, wheel arches in contrasting black and the wording ‘Canyon’ on the doors and rear hatch.
The study’s 18-inch wheels (albeit with road tires) and the roof lamp bar with four extra headlights, are available as an option as are three more colors named ‘Reflex Silver’, ‘Natural Grey’ and ‘Sand Beige, and a practical hard top.
While based on the Trendline specification, the Canyon receives a customized interior with a special color scheme. For example, the instrument panel’s sun visor is in contrasting matt chrome and the partially leather seats have two-tone coloring.
Furthermore, there is decorative stitching on the seats, the three-spoke leather steering wheel and the leather-covered gear lever, which picks up the color of the vehicle body.
The Amarok Canyon is available with two TDI engines, in combination with permanent or on-demand four-wheel drive (4MOTION) and optional differential lock on the rear axle. It will go on sale in Europe early next year.
