At the same time the new X1 compact crossover begins to arrive in U.S. showrooms, BMW announced the development of two special variants named the Concept K2 Power Ride and X1 Power Ride Edition, both of which will receive their world premiere at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show at the end of November.

The X1-based Concept K2 Powder Ride was created by BMW in collaboration with winter sport equipment supplier K2 in celebration of their partnership that began in 2009. It blends bespoke exterior and interior features with an exclusive roof structure.

The latter is made from milled aluminum and has an asymmetric structure that incorporates two luggage boxes and a ski carrier, plus three LED spotlights.

The conceptual model is finished in a Valencia Orange metallic paintwork complemented by a distinctive graphic inspired from a limited-edition K2 ski. The premium crossover rides on an extra 8mm (0.3 inches) of suspension travel over the standard model and 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Ferric Grey with polished spokes.

Other features found on the LA Auto Show study are the dark tinted side windows with matt Black surrounds and roof rails.

In the cabin, the X1concept sports Black Nappa leather with orange-colored contrast stitching for the seats and door trim, interior trim strips in Fineline Bay wood trim, K2 logos and an upgraded sound system from Harman Kardon.

The X1 Power Ride Edition is the limited production version of the concept and it will be available in the U.S. this winter only. BMW says that the car has been “especially tailored for those who make the most of winter on the slopes“.

To this extent, the special edition is fitted as standard with a 460 roof box, a ski and snowboard bag in a design specifically created for this model and an exclusively designed pair of K2 LTD Powder Ride skis, available only in conjunction with the X1 Powder Ride Edition.

Also included in the package is the xLine option, which adds exterior elements in matt Glacier Silver, 18-inch light-alloy wheels and doorsill strips, a sports leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, fabric/leather upholstery for the seats, trim strips in dark copper and ambient lighting.

The all-weather floor mats, a fitted luggage compartment mat and a special decal on the doors and wheel arches round out the upgrades over the standard model.

The X1 Powder Ride Edition can be ordered in the non-metallic paint shades Black and Alpine White, as well as in Valencia Orange, Mineral White, Mineral Grey, Glacier Silver and Black Sapphire metallic finishes.

BMW plans to launch the X1 Powder Ride Edition in November 2012 in both X1 xDrive28i (2.0-liter turbo with 240hp) and X1 xDrive35i (3.0-liter turbocharged six with 300hp) guises, with pricing to be announced.
