Most of you will probably agree that, if there is one category of vehicles a supercar maker of the likes of Ferrari ought to stay away from, it is the SUV / crossover segment.
Designers, of course, are free to imagine anything without the usual constraints that come with production models. Enter the world of Li Cheng Hsu, an aspiring student at the Art Center College of Design in California.
Hsu’s prototype is called the Ferrari Elevated Grand Tourer, and as the name clearly implies, it combines the shape and proportions of a front-engine GT model with four-wheel drive (something the Italians have already attempted with the FF) and a road clearance normally associated with crossovers and SUVs. A strange mix, indeed.
Below you will find a description of the project from Hsu as well as a gallery with photos.
[From Li Cheng Hsu]
“The idea is to create a whole new breed for Ferrari to attract new market and new buyers by mixing Ferrari’s racing heritage with something unexpected.”
“The solution is to elevate the driving position and ground clearance using a Ferrari 599GTO package, where both of the two doors and the two seats are dedicated for the driver and his only passenger.”
“It’s going to be called an Elevated Grand Tourer. A Grand Tourer is a high-performance luxury automobile designed for long-distance driving. With the higher ground clearance and four-wheel-drive layout, it upgrades the experience of weekend getaways.”
“Ferrari buyers are bold and willing to take challenges in their lives, the Elevated Grand Tourer is perfect for making impossible possible”
