Having prepared UK cops through the big screen and the use of a new Focus ST hatchback as the unmarked car of Flying Squad detectives Regan and Carter in the crime thriller “The Sweeney”, Ford is now catering to the needs of real-life police with the unveiling of a patrol package for the Focus ST Wagon.
The one-off demonstrator seen in these pictures was developed and engineered at Ford Special Vehicle Preparations (SVP) in Earls Colne, Essex, with the Blue Oval displaying the car at the National Association of Police Fleet Managers’ Conference and Blue Light Fleet Exhibition (NAPFM).
According to the automaker, the Focus ST Wagon demonstrator is equipped as a traffic car and meets the latest National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) standards for response vehicles inside and out.
Aside from the police livery, and among other things, the patrol car package includes an LED light bar on the roof, and a mobile data terminal (MDT) and screen in the interior.
Like the Focus ST hatchback, the estate model is powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo engine delivering 247hp (250PS) for a zero to 62mph (100km/h) sprint in 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 154mph (248km/h).
For regular road users, the hatchback is priced from £21,995 with the estate starting at £23,095 in the UK.
“With the Ford Focus ST being seen so publicly on cinema screens nationwide, the timing for this ‘official’ version couldn’t be better,” commented Terry Adams, Ford’s Direct Sales Manager for Police, Fire & Ambulance. “At the NAPFM show we displayed the car’s crime-fighting talents to police transport managers and took bookings for demonstrations.”
