Mark Twain once famously said, “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.” The same seems to holds true about the Australian market Ford Falcon, which will live on after all, at least for another generation, despite the rumors of its death because of declining sales.
In move that took most by surprise, Ford showed a teaser video of the all-new 2014 Falcon at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, on Thursday morning.
When asked by reporters about the new Falcon, Ford Australia CEO Bob Graziano had this to say:
“We’re really excited about the Falcon, and what it represents to our portfolio. And we think given our recent announcement about investment in January that it is important that we show people where we are heading with Falcon.”
“It’ s a terrific product and we’re really looking forward to having the vehicle in the showrooms in 2014,” said Graziano, according to New Zealand news website Stuff.
Naturally, Graziano was asked to provide more details about the next Falcon, to which he responded, “You’re just going to have to wait until 2014, we just wanted to tease a little bit.”
The teaser video, courtesy of Performance Drive, showed the new Falcon’s front end, which was said to be in line with the Blue Oval’s latest products such as the Mondeo and the Fiesta.
The new model is believed to keep its current 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine, possibly offering an even smaller 1.6-liter EcoBoost unit, in addition to the high-performance FPV models.
