At the forthcoming Sao Paolo Motor Show that takes place in Brazil from October 24 to November 4, Nissan Design Chief Shiro Nakamura will personally lift the covers off a “dramatic” (sic) concept car, the Japanese automaker announced.
The as-of-yet unnamed prototype was created under the direction of Nakamura by Nissan Design America in California.
The Japanese automaker makes no effort to hide the fact that the concept will enter production in some form or another, and says that this is its first ever model created specifically for the country, by cooperation with Brazilian designers and built in Brazil.
I’m so excited because I will be in Sao Paulo to reveal the concept car”, said Nakamura in a statement. “It is the birth of something special for Nissan and it will be a hugely significant milestone in our plans for Brazil”, he added.
Those plans include investing US$2.6 billion to build a new plant that will have an annual capacity of 200,000 cars in Resende as well as launching eight new models and increasing its dealerships across the country from 153 to 239 until 2016.
Nissan, which wants a 5 percent share of the local market, will also be the official sponsor of the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games that will take place in Rio de Janeiro, and will deliver 4,500 cars for the needs of the Games.
