The launch of the brand-new, fourth generation Clio at last month’s Paris Motor Show didn’t bring the demise of Renault’s third generation supermini in Europe after all.

The French carmaker announced this week that the older model will continue its career in the B-segment under the “Clio Collection” nameplate alongside the Clio Mk4 as a more affordable proposal.

The Clio Collection will be offered in both three- and five-door body styles in two equipment levels named Alizé and Business, while European customers will be able to specify either the 1.2-liter 16V 75 petrol engine or the dCi 75 diesel powerplant.

Prices of the Clio Collection in its home market of France start at €9,990 (equal to US$12,900), which is significantly less than the base Clio Mk4 with the 1.2-liter 16V 75 petrol engine that begins at €13,700 (US$17,700).

Renault said that the Clio Collection is manufactured at its French factory in Flins, near Paris, and, until March 2013, in Valladolid, Spain.
