It takes a lot of work and many dedicated people to create any type of vehicle that is to be sold to the public, but trying out some cars can be a little bit more enjoying than others, even if we are talking about an SUV.
Unlike their arbeitskolleges at Mercedes-Benz’s AMG department who had an unfortunate mishap earlier today with the SLS GT AMG…Toast Edition, BMW‘s M people were able to keep the upcoming X5 M under control while pushing the performance crossover to its limits on the Nordschleife.
Seen here in a video from Xbimmers, the M version of the third generation X5, codenamed F15, will gain a newly styled body and interior with power coming from the M5 and M6’s tweaked twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 S63Tu engine.
BMW has said that the newer S63Tu features many changes over the current X5 and X6 M’s S63 4.4-liter bi-turbo V8 including larger charge-air coolers, an optimized Valvetronic valve timing, a new cylinder head and a wet sump with an additional oil pump.
Output should be around the 560hp mark, the same as in the M5 and M6 models, with the X5M adding BMW’s x Drive AWD system to the equation.
We expect the new X5M to make its appearance about a year after the regular F15 X5s, which are scheduled for an introduction towards the end of 2013.
