Subaru is targeting motorsport enthusiasts in Australia with the new track-ready BRZ coupe that was developed in partnership with New Zealand-based Possum Bourne Motorsport (PBMS).
Introduced at this week’s 2012 Sydney Motor Show, the BRZ Motorsports Project was made to showcase the options that are available from PBMS. According to the company, customers can start with an entry-level price model and then add more components to suit their needs.
Subaru Australia Managing Director, Nick Senior, said that while the company has no plans to re-enter the motorsport arena itself, it’s “keen to tap into that market” for enthusiasts, hence the cooperation with PBMS.
“From day one we have always imagined the BRZ would appeal to the ‘weekend warriors’ – people who enjoy club level motorsport activities,” said Senior. “PBMS has developed packages that will appeal to these enthusiasts. It is a company that has developed an international reputation for excellence in engineering and fastidiousness in attention to detail.”
PBMS will offer three basic track ready packages for the BRZ, details of which, follow below.
The entry-level package includes:
- Rollcage kit, including installation
- Recaro motorsport seats
- Sabelt six-point harness
- Fuel system modifications, including lines and connectors
- Carbonfibre lightweight parts, including door panels
The upscale package, displayed at AIMS (Australian International Motor Show), adds:
- Driveline and suspension modifications, including Cusco height and damper adjustable coilover suspension
- Brake package, including AP front and rear rotors and calipers and STI handbrake
- Electrical kit, including wiring, circuit breakers and lightweight battery
- Recaro winged-HANS seats
- Enkei 18 x 8.0 lightweight wheels and Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R motorsport tyres.
The third option from PBMS includes a complete performance parts package with extensive engine and gearbox enhancements, while the company says it can also strip down the car and paint it according to customer requirements.
