The mystery that is the premieres of the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show is slowly unraveling with Mitsubishi being the latest carmaker to reveal its plans ahead of the event’s grand opening on November 28.
Taking center stage at the Japanese brand’s booth will be the North American specification 2014 Outlander crossover, which will be displayed for the first time on this side of the Atlantic.
For now, Mitsubishi shared a darkened image of the third generation model, but from what we can tell, it doesn’t sport any differences from the European specification Outlander that debuted in standard trim at the Geneva Salon in March, with the plug-in hybrid variant (PHEV) following at the Paris auto show this past September.
The triple diamond brand said the American 2014 Outlander will be powered by a new gasoline engine equipped with its latest MIVEC continuously-variable valve lift timing system, without providing any other information.
According to Mitsubishi, the 2014 Outlander will be “among the most fuel-efficient compact CUV with 7-passenger seating as standard“.
There’s no mention of the Outlander PHEV, but we hear that it will go on sale in the U.S. sometime next year.
Among the new tech features making their debut on the next Outlander are the Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems.
Joining the 2014 Outlander in Los Angeles, will be a special edition version of its smaller sibling, the 2013 Outlander Sport Limited Edition, which was designed to commemorate Mitsubishi Motors’ arrival in North America 30 years ago.
The automaker said that along with the vehicle presentations, it will also highlight “other important company developments” at the LA auto show.
