There’s no end in sight to Ford’s war of words against Toyota and its Prius family of hybrid models. Adding to a long list of press releases and statements targeting the Japanese brand’s hybrid models, Ford came out with a new announcement today saying the 47mpg C-MAX Hybrid outsold the Prius v minivan in its first full sales month.

In particular, for the month of October, the C-Max Hybrid delivered 3,182 cars to U.S. customers, while the Toyota Prius v, 2,769 units.

The Blue Oval also noted that nearly 70 percent of C-MAX Hybrid buyers are new to the company, as they traded in a competitive model or added it without trading in another vehicle, while Ford pointed out that one third of C-MAX Hybrid customers in October “said they cross-shopped the Toyota Prius and Prius v”.

“The new C-MAX is off to a fast start in the heart of the hybrid market, not only outselling Prius v, but drawing a lot of interested Toyota customers who chose our new hybrid instead,” commented C.J. O’Donnell, manager of Ford Electrified Vehicles.

Ford added that about a quarter of C-MAX Hybrids sold in October were delivered in California, with Los Angeles finishing first and San Francisco following in as second best-selling region.
