If you’re a car enthusiast who has been to Walt Disney’s Epcot’s Future World pavilion in Florida, you will no doubt have taken a ride at the GM Test Track, which officially opened to the public in March of 1999 and remained open until April, 2012, when it was shut down for a renovation designed in partnership with General Motors.

This time, and as far as the name is concerned, the Test Track’s sponsor is Chevrolet instead of GM (the money comes from the same pockets, of course). The re-imagined ride is named “Test Track Presented by Chevrolet” and it will open on December 6, 2012.

Chevrolet designers and Walt Disney Imagineers have been working on the project for the past 18 months. According to the American automaker, the track will offer “guests a deep look inside a professional design studio creating a first-of-its-kind multi-sensory virtual experience in automotive design.”

First, guests will have the chance to design a virtual vehicle (a car, truck or crossover) and then test-drive the design through the ride on track surfaces that simulate the actual vehicle validation process.

The third and last part of the Test Track experience offers participants the opportunity to race their virtual automobile over changing terrain and extreme conditions on a digital driving table. In addition, they will be able to produce and share a TV commercial starring their custom model and pose for action shots in front of their design.

The “Test Track Presented by Chevrolet” will be the fastest ride at the Disney theme park offering speeds of to 65 miles per hour (105 km/h).
