A shocking video of a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus driver attacking a teenage girl that was posted online on Tuesday has led to the suspension of the as-of-yet, unidentified female driver.
The woman who filmed the video and who preferred to not be named, told CBS News that the fight erupted when the middle-aged woman bus driver thought that the young student was playing her music too loud and so she stopped the vehicle to confront her.
“The only thing she did physically was get up to get off the bus. The bus driver grabbed her and they started to fight,” the woman told reporters. “When she parked the bus, everything just went from zero to 60–that fast–to the argument.”
MTA spokesman Terry Owens confirmed the incident to the news station adding that the driver had been working with the transport agency since 2003.
“We have a no engage policy. Under no circumstances should our operators be fighting customers,” said Owens. “At the MTA, our highest priority is the safety of our passengers and our employees and we expect our employees to remember that at all times.”
Owens would not release the bus driver’s name but he did state that she had been removed from service pending the results of the investigation.
