Nissan’s all-new 2013 entry into the league of extraordinary Australian V8 Supercars was only just revealed to the press last Thursday, but the Kelly Racing team that will field four Altima sedans in the championship has already gone to work trying out the car on the tarmac.
On Friday, the AU$1.5 million racing model was rolled-out at Calder Park Raceway for the first part of aerodynamic testing with Todd Kelly being the inaugural driver to get some time behind the wheel.
Nissan’s motorsports division said it was extremely happy to see the 2013 Altima V8 Supercar on the track for the first time, but added that there is still plenty of work ahead of the race debut in Adelaide in the beginning of March next year.
The Altima V8 was designed and built to the category’s new ‘Car of The Future’ regulations, which include 18-inch (46cm) wheels, transaxle gearbox and independent rear suspension, while power is provided by a racing version of Nissan’s VK56 V8, which is used on several production models like the Infiniti QX and Nissan Patrol SUVs.
