The 2013 model year Amarok that was first announced in August is now available for order in Britain with on-the-road prices starting at £23,536 for the base 2.0 TDI 120hp (122PS) 4Motion and topping out at £31,098 for the new 2.0 BiTDI 178hp (180PS) 4Motion Permanent with BlueMotion Technology and an 8-speed auto.

Before we get into more details about the changes and upgrades on the 2013 Amarok, it should be noted that from now on, all models for the UK and the rest of Europe are produced at VW’s Hanover factory in Germany, instead of being imported from the brand’s Argentina plant.

The other big news for VW’s updated truck is the introduction of a BlueMotion Technology package with rolling resistance tyres, Stop/Start and regenerative braking for improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions, and a revised 2.0-liter BiTDI delivering 178hp (180PS), up from 161hp (163PS), which can be now linked to an optional, new 8-speed automatic.

When the new 178hp 2.0-liter turbo diesel is combined with the BlueMotion package, it is 3.9 per cent more economical than the previous 161hp model with a combined fuel economy of 37.2 mpg UK compared to 35.8 mpg UK. At the same time, CO2 emissions drop by 10 g/km to 199 g/km.

Furthermore, VW has increased towing limits from 2,800 kg (6,173 lbs) to 3,000 kg (6,614 lbs) for manual models and to 3,200 kg (7,055 lbs) for the 8-speed automatic variants.

New features for 2013 include Bluetooth, front and rear parking sensors, heated washer jets, tachograph preparation, cornering fog lights and 19-inch alloy wheels.
