Cumulative worldwide sales of Lexus hybrid vehicles broke the half a million mark at the end of November 2012, the company announced today. This milestone was reached seven years after the market introduction of the brand’s first hybrid model, the RX 400h in 2005.

In the first year of the RX 400h, Lexus sold 26,000 hybrid vehicles, while by November 30 this year, the annual global total is 113,000, accounting for around 25 per cent of all Lexus sales.

Other numbers released by Lexus include European cumulative sales of 126,000 hybrids or about a quarter of the worldwide total, with Western Europe accounting for more than 85 per cent of the Lexus models sold in the continent.

The RX series claims the largest share of Lexus hybrid sales, with 259,000 units sold from 2005 through to November this year, followed by the CT 200h hatchback with 122,000 sales since it went on sale in late 2011.
