When CarScoop reader Hunter L. emailed these scoop shots he took of a camouflaged prototype sedan parked in a garage in California, he told us it’s likely a 2014 model Hyundai, something we agreed with him, with our first thought going to the new Genesis saloon that we caught off guard testing in Europe earlier this month.
While the two prototypes may look similar, upon a more careful examination of the photos and specific details such as the lights, the dashboard and the window line, we determined that this is not the new generation of the Genesis but the North American market 2014 Equus facelift, which has been announced in South Korea.
We can’t see behind the camouflage to know if Hyundai has applied the same minor changes to the front and rear ends of its flagship model as it did with the KDM (Korean Domestic Market) version, but we did spot the new turbine-style alloy wheels, the sleeker exterior mirrors with integrated turning signals, the added chrome bits to the windows and the different tail lamp graphics.
Hunter was also able to get a snap shot of the interior that looks like it features the same upgrades as the KDM model, such as the redesigned center and lower consoles, new controls for the audio system on the steering wheel, a square instead of a round clock on the dash, and a new shifter for the automatic gearbox that brings to mind creations from…Munich.
Expect to see the facelifted Equus at a major international auto show in the U.S. sometime next year.
Many Thanks to Hunter L. for the Scoop!
