CarScoop reader Michael G. from Germany dropped these spy pictures of a prototype BMW model that he captured earlier this week in our mailbox.
“I think this might be the new BMW M3 Saloon,” he tells us. “These photos were shot in Munich.” Well done Michael, and thank you for sharing these shots with our readers.
You are spot on your assessment as the quad exhaust pipes, the ever so subtle bulge on the hood and the fat tires leave no doubt that this is indeed the next generation of the M3, which in sedan form, will keep the iconic nameplate.
As BMW recently confirmed with the unveiling of its Detroit motor show-bound coupe concept, the 3-Series coupe and hardtop convertible replacements will be rebadged as the 4-Series, and therefore, the M variants will be called the M4.
Regardless of the badge, the M models will share the same platform and a new straight-six with two or according to some accounts, three turbochargers, producing somewhere around 450-horses.
Thanks to Michael G. for the scoop!
