Last October, it was reported that due to the European crisis, the VW Group might delay a decision regarding the production of two luxury SUVs for its Bentley and Lamborghini brands previewed last year by the EXP 9 F and Urus Concepts respectively.

We still don’t know what the German group’s plans are for Lamborghini, but Bentley boss Wolfgang Schreiber told Autonews Europe that the company is “close to a decision to build” the EXP 9 F, with an expected introduction date in 2016.

Schreiber added that the concept’s controversial styling will be toned down to bring it more in line with the rest of Bentley’s lineup.

“The main intention was not to show the final styling but to get feedback from the market,” Schreiber told reporters at last week’s Detroit auto show. “If you saw the styling, you would say, ‘That is a real Bentley.'”

Bentley’s SUV will share its underpinnings with respective models from Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen, with Schreiber stating that it likely will be offered with a V8 and possibly a W12 option.

“Bentleys are luxury cars, but people like this effortless acceleration and torquey engines,” he said, according to Autonews Europe.
