The countdown for the presentation of the new Cadillac ELR at the Detroit auto show (January 14 to 27) begins with a fresh set of pictures that afford us our first unobstructed view of the GM’s upmarket extended range hybrid coupe.

The new images show some exterior details of the car as well as of the sharply styled interior that keeps in line with other products from Cadillac.

Under the more fancy sheet metal that was previewd by the 2009 Converj Concept, you will find GM’s Voltec plug-in hybrid powertrain sourced from the Chevrolet Volt combining an electric motor with a T-shaped lithium-ion and a 1.4-liter gasoline-engine that acts as a generator to extend the driving range when necessary. As with the Volt, power is transferred to the front wheels.

Expect to see the new ELR in Cadillac’s showrooms from this fall, with full details to be announced within the next 24 hours.
