One of Mercedes-Benz’s most important new models of the year is without doubt the CLA. Not only because it is the brand’s first front-wheel drive saloon, but also because it lowers the entry price to the three-pointed star to around $30k in the U.S.
Short of actually driving the car, we know everything about the new CLA. Based on the MFA platform, it boasts a world-leading aerodynamic coefficient of 0.23 (0.22 in the BlueEFFICIENCY C180) and will launch with a 207HP turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the U.S. and a broader engine range in other markets.
The CLA purports to be a “baby CLS’, i.e. a smaller version of Mercedes’ acclaimed four-door coupe. In spite of being front-wheel drive, with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system offered as an option on certain models, the German carmaker claims that its entry-level saloon boasts all the passive and active safety features of its bigger siblings and it’s also every bit as sporty.
To reinforce this point, it has released a new commercial that has the CLA facing, and racing, a wolf. Using the tagline “untamed”, we assume that the message of this ad is that the small sedan is as wild as the canis lupus.
Mercedes also put out a second spot that we suspect our male viewers may find a bit more interesting: it shows the hotness that is Kate Upton teasing a football team washing the new CLA. Guess what; the boys prefer the curves of the Merc instead (no need to talk about that message…).
