Just like Julius Caesar’s wife must be above suspicion, all products from Land Rover and especially its flagship Range Rover SUV must be capable of conquering all sorts of terrain and hauling anything you throw at it, regardless if a substantial number of owners will never set foot on dirt.
Having already shown its off-road prowess, Land Rover wanted to demonstrate what it describes as “the class-leading towing ability” of the all-new 2013 Range Rover.
For this reason, the British carmaker teamed up with Airstream hitching the latter’s newly-launched 684 Series 2 aluminum travel trailer to a Range Rover Autobiography equipped with a 334hp (339PS) SDV8 turbocharged diesel engine and sending it to a trip from Airstream’s European home in the English Lake District, to the top of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and back.
The team was on the move often for more than 12 hours a day completing the challenge of towing the 2,399 kg (5,289 pounds) Airstream 3,676 miles (5,915 kilometers) in 11 days.
“The new Range Rover’s towing ability is nothing short of stunning. It pulled the two and a half tonne Airstream like it simply wasn’t there,” commented Ben Samuelson, whose firm Samuelson Wylie Associates organized and executed the trip.
As for the Airstream trailer, Samuelson had this to say: “You can compare the Airstream to a boutique hotel – albeit a mobile one – and taking this combination of rig on your travels injects some serious style and comfort.”
Albeit no video footage of the trip has been released yet (at least not to our knowledge), Land Rover did share some neat images, which you can check out for yourself in HD below the break.
