If there’s one thing that Germany’s premium carmakers know how to do well, it is to expand their offerings to cover every possible niche there is. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that this prototype caught testing in Northern Sweden is indeed an AMG performance variant of the upcoming GLA, as claimed by our man with the long lens.
The most persuasive evidence that points to this are the big brakes with drilled rotors positioned behind large alloy wheels and the twin exhaust pipes at the back.
Furthermore, up until now, all A-Class and CLA models with AMG styling packages feature a front grille with a dotted background, while real AMG models get the honeycomb treatment, just like this prototype.
Our photographer also stated that the car certainly growled like a high-performance model while testing on the snow.
As a member of the A-Class family, the GLA 45 AMG would use the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 350-horsepower and 332 lb-ft (450Nm) of peak torque linked to a 7sp dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive as the A 45 AMG hatch and in due time, the CLA 45 AMG as well.
