It’s only been days since GM pulled the covers off from the coupe iteration of the new 2014 Corvette Stingray in Detroit, and even though a convertible body style isn’t due for another year or so, images of a drop top version surfaced on the internet today.
The pictures were first seen on “The Auto Insider“, a site that may or may not be affiliated with a former Jalopnik editor under the same alias, with the author stating, “I might add, this is no render. No pixels were pushed.”
While one may be tempted to believe they’re real, Michael Albano, Chevy’s Director of Communications told Matt Hardigree from Jalopnik that these are “not” photos of the new Stingray convertible.
Hardigree added that they may be renders of a future die-cast model from Maisto, and he could be right, as we found several pictures of the company’s Corvette Stingray prototype, including one that matches the photo angle (rear) while it also incorporates the same smaller boot lid spoiler as the convertible. It also lacks the Stingray logo on the fenders…
Even if it is proved without any doubt that the images of the convertible are indeed renderings, it’s still an excellent job and we don’t expect the production model to look all too different.
