Free maintenance for a pre-defined time and miles (that is, before your vehicle really starts to need expensive services and repairs – ask any BMW owner about that) is a common amenity offered by premium carmakers in the U.S., as it is usually justified by the price of the car.
Lately, we’ve seen mainstream brands follow the same path, though, only for select models and for specific timeframes, like General Motors, which is now offering a free-maintenance promotion for buyers of the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck as it looks to clear its lots and prepare for the arrival of the redesigned 2014 model in early summer.
The program is called “Pro Grade Protection” and it covers the scheduled maintenance costs for two years or 24,000 miles (38,616 kilometers), whichever comes first, for all 2013 GMC Sierra 1500s sold or leased between February 1 and 28, 2013.
It includes scheduled oil changes, oil filter replacements, tire rotations and multi-point vehicle inspections – or in other words, the least costly services….
“A branded program like Pro Grade Protection is going to be outstanding for our dealer network,” said Mike Bowsher, co-chairman of the national dealer council for Buick & GMC. “It not only allows owners to experience our customer-focused service departments, but gives them the opportunity to see the newest vehicles in our showrooms. There’s no better retention tool for us than this.”
