At a recent Daimler Group Annual Press Conference in Stuttgart, the company’s CEO Dieter Zetsche, outlined the Mercedes-Benz car brand’s plans, in which he confirmed the launch of a total of 13 new vehicles that have no predecessor in the automaker’s portfolio.
Besides the A-Class-based GLA compact crossover, which will be previewed by a concept model at the Shanghai Auto Show in China this April, with the production model to break cover at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany later in the fall, Zetsche also said that the company is readying a brand new SUV.
“At our plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, we are currently preparing for the production of another new SUV: an especially dynamic all-terrain vehicle. You will hear more about that soon,” said the Dailmer boss, without elaborating further.
Zetsche continued his speech with a reference to the upcoming S-Class series:
“Our most important new model will make its world debut in the middle of this year: the new S-Class. The S-Class is not “just any” car: it is the epitome of the luxury sedan; a symbol of German engineering skill recognized the world over; a metaphor for best-in-class,” he said.
“And we will live up to this reputation once again with this new model: in terms of fuel consumption and safety as well as comfort and design. Plus, there will be unprecedented choice in models at the top end of our portfolio. In the coming years, we will launch five versions of the new S-Class,” added Zetsche.
These five versions of the new S-Class are expected to include the regular and long-wheelbase models, a coupe, a convertible and a flagship limousine.
