This is not our first encounter with the next generation 2014 Hyundai Genesis saloon, but this time, our scoop photographer cleverly took a close up shot of the sticker found on this prototype’s rear passenger window, which reveals that the car we’re looking at is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine linked to an automatic transmission and a 4WD system.
The first iteration of the Genesis sedan was offered only with rear-wheel drive and the option of seven engines (depending on the market), including the 3.3-liter V6 GDi / MPi, 3.8-liter V6 GDi / MPi, 4.6-liter V8 MPi with 361hp (366PS) or 378hp (390PS), and more recently, the 5.0-liter V8 GDi with 429hp (435PS).
In North America, and aside from the 3.8-liter V6, the new Genesis will surely get the 5.0-liter V8, but at this point, we do not know if the flagship engine will be offered with all-wheel drive as an option or exclusively with rear-wheel drive. If not from launch, both these engines will eventually be coupled to a new 10-speed automatic transmission that is currently under development by Hyundai.
As for the luxury model’s design, Hyundai hinted at the sportier, fastback-like styling of the next Genesis through the HCD-14 Concept that it displayed at last month’s Detroit Auto Show. A similar overhaul is also expected for the interior of the car.
