We all knew it was in the works, but if you had any kind of doubts, we now have proof that Aston Martin is indeed preparing a convertible version of its new Vanquish named the Volante.

Our spies snared a very thinly disguised prototype of the Vanquish Volante in Northern Sweden undergoing winter testing. The only part of the car hidden from view was the boot lid as Aston Martin’s engineers had placed a fake cover over the integrated spoiler.

Like every other Volante model in Aston’s range, the open-top version of the Vanquish features a retractable fabric hood that stows away between the passenger compartment and the boot area.

Under the bonnet, you will find the same 5.9-liter V12 engine generating 565hp (573PS) and 620Nm (457 lb-ft) of peak torque connected to a 6sp Touchtronic 2 automatic transmission driving the rear wheels as on the coupe model.

Given how ready the prototype looks in these spy pictures, we wouldn’t be surprised if Aston Martin reveals the car as early as next month’s Geneva International Auto Show with sales to follow before the end of the year.
