Jaguar is expanding its range of high-performance “R” models with the addition of the all-new XJR sedan, which will make its first public outing next week at the 2013 New York International Auto Show.
The most potent model of the XJ series features a 550-horsepower engine, which Jaguar does not detail, but is most likely the same 550hp 5.0-liter supercharged V8 found in the XFR-S that premiered last November in Los Angeles.
In the single teaser image shared by Jaguar, we see that the XJR features the usual styling traits of its R-badged models, including a different front bumper with a spoiler, a vented hood, a dark honeycomb grille, side skirts and a new set of alloy wheels with red brake calipers.
Jaguar said that like other R models, the XJR will be backed by steering, suspension and braking enhancements, “that have been tested at the company’s Nurburgring Test Center”, along with subtle interior upgrades.
The XJR will be displayed at the New York Auto Show alongside Jaguar’s newest models, including the F-Type roadster, and XJ and XF All Wheel Drive sedans
“Jaguar is growing its product lineup to meet a far wider spectrum of customer demands ranging from sedans with 2.0 liter and 3.0 liter engines and All Wheel Drive to the exciting new F-TYPE sports car,” said Andy Goss, President, Jaguar Land Rover North America.
“It is clear that performance will continue to lie at the heart and soul of the brand. To that end, the growing R performance lineup offers our customers the truly elevated dynamics and design, but in a Jaguar luxury package. The Jaguar XJR is a British performance machine that delivers emotionally and dynamically on the road and on the track,” he added.
