Stories that Lotus may be going into liquidation started popping up earlier today, and it really put the fright into the souls of British sports car lovers throughout the land. However, now Lotus is denying it, despite the fact that it was one of the names featured on today’s Companies Court Winding Up List.
It was speculated that the company creditors might have been using the liquidation procedure to recover some money, and pay off the firm’s debts. Still, being owned by Malaysia’s DRB-HICOM, some sort of financial stability should be expected, so this may not be the case here.
An official statement came via one of the company’s spokesmen, who said that the company being on that list simply has to do with “a legal case” that they “can’t comment on.” This may have something to do with reports which came out in June of 2012, when it was said that Lotus would be taken to court, being accused by several parts suppliers of not having paid their bills.
It actually all fits together. The official Lotus statement from today, and the June 2012 legal issues do tie in nicely, and the company’s promised full statement that is will come out later today will most likely confirm the information.
